Excellent post, Craig. Anxious to hear additional commentary on the subject. It reminds me of a Leonardo DiCaprio during an Oscar roundtable interview about his teenage years and not getting called back to "150 auditions in a row". He said he asked his mother, "Am I washed up at 16?" She said, well do you love it? And he replied, more than anything when I'm working. He said he then realized he had become one of these "hollywood puppet kids" who seek approval and don't direct their attention where it should be; their work. He said if you make the work more important than the result, you can only be successful. It's like Deepak Chopra says regarding the rule of detachment. "Focus on excellence, not success! Detach from the results and stay in the awareness." Great advice.

Craig,

I really enjoyed your blog post. Its so well written! I read it and thought maybe I should bring Nicholas to your class -- he has an agent and a manager and he's been working. He got a small part in a series pilot for FOX this winter and he goes out a lot to auditions. He's doing a bunch of classes -- although he's 16 he's in an adult class with Meisner technique with John Ruskin and some other things. I totally get what you are saying -- and I wonder if you have a class coming up that might be good for him. I think he's at the stage where he's getting a lot of calls for auditions and I want to help him start booking more things.

On to to other fronts. How are you and Sammy? We should get together soon. We are actually moving back to our old house this summer in West Hollywood.

Dear Craig,
So glad to see your classes are doing well, even though you had to abandon your dream of becoming an Assistant Manager at Big Lots.
Love,
